   In 104 laboratory rats of a conventional breed the functional residual lung capacity was measured. The lung histological sections were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively with regard to the presence of emphysematous and inflammatory lesions. The heart muscle was examined with regard to developing right heart hypertrophy. In 20% of animals signs of developed lung emphysema were present and almost one half of the animals had marked signs of a lung inflammatory disease.
